What Remains After The Cut

This exhibition is an exploration into collage as an artform.

The two walls that greet you as you enter the gallery act as a ground on which to display collected imagery. I’ve recently been thinking a lot recently about my daily consumption of media and visual information. So these two walls are a little insight into what the algorithm has been showing me recently, what I’ve been interested in, what I’ve been disturbed by, along with previously found patterns and imagery that I keep returning to.

I wanted to explore further the process that I showcased in our “Response” Collective exhibition. I find the act of looking back and picking out my favourite parts of things I’ve made to create something new really satisfying. For this exhibition I wanted to go one step further and show the first stage of my process which is collecting imagery. As you look around the exhibition you’ll see repeated patterns and imagery from the first two walls appear.

I’ve worked intuitively with the imagery collected on the walls, to create works on wood panels and on paper.

This show is a continuation of the ideas and themes developed during my degree. To show this development I have displayed some fragments of my degree show installation in this exhibition.

I continue to be influenced by the work of other artists working with collage such as Neda Petrova, Lottie Stoddart, Tobias Buche, and Carmen Winnant.
